Bass trips - see prices

Onboard equipment boasts Global
Positioning Systems, colour sounders and
sonar ground and fish finders, radios and
a sophisticated radar scanner to ensure
safety when the visibility is marginal.
The Global Positioning System (GPS) allows
the skipper to accurately position the
vessel over a wreck to within a few metres
to maximise your potential to catch.

Sea Bass Fishing
|
|
|
By David Elliott
Sea Bass fishing off Newhaven on the wrecks and on the inshore ground can offer some great Bass fishing. Bob Nye came out on an inshore sea Bass fishing trip and caught his biggest Bass of 10lb. It was his new personal best and was caught on squid bait, at anchor. This Bass gave Bob a cracking fight, especially when it hit the surface as it screamed off a few times taking line.
While sea Bass fishing on the wrecks, we can also use live baits as they work quite well or small red gills while drifting over the wrecks. When drifting over the wrecks while sea Bass fishing we would use the ‘gilling’ technique using an 8oz lead with a 10ft flowing trace to your gill or your live bait. When using the the gill, you have to wind and work it, whereas the live bait you would need to keep it as close to the wreck as you dare. Long drifts under the cliffs with live bait can also be very productive for the large Bass, as the ground under the cliffs is very rocky and has big banks and large gullies around the Beachy Head area. Sea Bass fishing can be a game of patience, but worth it.
If you are looking for a day out on a sea Bass fishing trip, try David Elliott on the Newhaven Ocean Warrior 3. Sea Bass fishing is an art and can be hard going especially if you have no experience in Bass fishing, but, we all have to learn somehow, so why not come out and give it a try.

Conger Fishing - on Ocean Warrior 3
|
|
|
By David Elliott
Conger fishing – on Ocean Warrior 3, which is based in Newhaven on the South Coast of England. Ocean Warrior 3 specialises in Conger fishing trips on the deep sea wrecks that lay within the English Channel.
Conger fishing gives you a great day out with the chance of catching other species along the way. When you are fishing at anchor while Conger fishing; you can also pick up some big Pollock and Cod on the baits. The picture is of Mark, he is bent in to catching a big Conger and Harry is shown with 2 nice sized Pollock, this was while they were Conger fishing on a deep sea wreck at anchor.
Ryan Matthews caught a staggering Conger eel of 79lb when he was only 9 years old on the Ocean Warrior 3. On this Conger fishing trip, we had Conger up to 81lb on the day. The best bait we have found to use while Conger fishing – on Ocean Warrior 3, is Mackerel flappers. But alternatively, another bait that also works well is cuttlefish while Conger fishing, as we have found that if there are any Cod around this will seek them out around the wreck.
Also, Ryan’s Dad Andy Matthews holds the Newhaven Port Record for Conger fishing – on Ocean Warrior 3, which was a staggering 103lb. This big eel was returned back to the sea alive, which is what we always do on the Ocean Warrior 3. This is skipper David Elliott’s policy on his boat, as we just enjoy the fight and the strength of these big Conger while Conger fishing and it gives you the chance to go out and catch them again.
We also have video’s filmed aboard Ocean Warrior 3 if you want to see what Conger fishing is all about, you can find them on my website or on You tube – take a look.. Conger fishing is David Elliott’s favourite type of sea angling as they are one of the hardest fighting fish we have off the south coast and they give you a cracking day’s sport fishing.
The tackle you would need for Conger fishing is; A Shimano or Penn Reels (our preferred choice) with 50-60lb of braid or mono line, on a 30-50lb class rod, then end tackle is a heavy duty boom which then continues to your lead of either 1 or 2lb, depending on the tide you are Conger fishing on. The trace we use now is a mono trace between 200-300lb (around a metre long), attached to an 8.0 or 10.0 size hook.
If you fancy a day out Conger fishing, the best months are between May and the end of September which are the prime fishing months. If you would like to book up your Conger fishing trip, call David Elliott on 07966 377145 or look at the website for more information at www.oceanwarrior3.com
