AUGUST 2005 - MORE BIG EELS!
9 year old Ryan Matthews from Hampshire caught this Conger of 58lb which was a great achievement for him after a great battle.
He also caught a 6lb Crab on a 8.0 size hook on a mackerel flapper and managed to hook it in the mouth - and then proceeded to take it home for dinner, however, had to go out and buy a new pot to cook it in as they didn't have one big enough!!

Yes, 9 year old Ryan Matthews is back again, with a Conger of a life time and better than most anglers I know, with a 79lb eel! He caught it on a mackerel flapper and after a pretty cocky start with it, he realised he had a serious battle on, the sweat started to show and the hat had to come off and after 30 to 40 minutes he landed the Conger!! I must say I haven't seen anything like that ever before.
It must run in the blood, as his father Andy Matthews had the 103lb eel back in 2003 with me.
Well done Ryan!!

Brian Harrison flew down from Newcastle for 2 days Conger fishing with Andy Matthews and his crew. They were catching alot of Pollack up to 15lb as well as a Ling to 16lb, a Thornback Ray of 15lb, 2 Bull Huss and the biggest eel on the day was Brian's of 77lb.
Mind you, Brian's mate was testing out a new rod and snapped the rod in half on a 45lb eel, sorry, but we did have to laugh!!!

Nick from North London had his personal best conger of 80lb, which is our biggest eel so far this year!
On the day, other catches were, a few Cods and pollack as well as a 62lb and 63lb eel, along with approximately 20 eels which were returned.
As with all Ocean Warrior's eels that are caught, they are photographed, weighed and returned to sea alive.

Alan Durrant and his son, who normally fish out of Dover for the last few years, decided try their luck fishing out of Newhaven for a change with their relations Richard and Martin Glass.
Richard Glass caught his biggest Conger of 65lb and his biggest Cod of 14lb and then he struck into a 20lb Cod. However, Martin the son, unfortunately lost a cracking eel after 5 minutes of battling with it, it then snapped him up on a 50lb line. But, he did come back with a 21lb, 6oz Cod - beating his Dad's Cod!! Total Congers returned to sea on the day were '21' with 4 people fishing.
Not a bad start to August and still going strong. I must say that I am looking forward to this years Cod fishing on the rough ground again. If you are not booked in already, then give us a call or may be disappointed - as any remaining days are going fast!
