CHRIS HILL – STAG FISHING TRIP – CATCHES 90LB CONGER!!!
Chris Hill booked the boat as a stag do for all his friends and family and wanted to catch a conger!!
The first eel that they caught was 30lb, which they were chuffed with. The next eel was Chris’, his first fish ever, happened to be the 90lb Conger!! At first he thought he was stuck in the wreck as he could not move the rod for at least 5 minutes and then it nodded and started moving.

When the eel was brought to the surface it was netted and weighed at sea at which point we gave an approximate weight of 88lb. This was caught using a 20-30lb rod, a penn 4.0 reel on 45lb line. Unfortunately, when we got the eel aboard it was tired, stressed and died – which is a big blow for Ocean Warrior 3 as we pride ourselves in returning all eels alive!

When the eel was brought ashore we re-weighed it and it was 90lb. Chris has now been entered for the heaviest qualifier with the British Conger Club.

This years congering has been really slow and my worst ever. My theory is the water temperature has been down and the eels we are catching are very weak. The 90lb’er did not fight very well and was tired and stressed by the time we got it to the surface. It seems a little weird but we also had 3 eels last year that died for no apparent reason.
